Capacity Building Workshop and Awareness Session on Climate Change Effects in Pakistan

On May 18, 2024, the Huqooq ul Ebad Development Foundation organized a seminar in Gujrat titled “Capacity Building Workshop and Awareness Session on Climate Change Effects in Pakistan.” The event was attended by social workers, lawyers, journalists, youth, and public officials, with a total of 32 participants, including 12 women.
The Deputy Director of Social Welfare and Bait ul Maal, Ms. Saman Ejaz, served as the chief guest. She expressed her gratitude to the organizers and highlighted the initiatives her department is undertaking for the development of women and disabled persons.
Syed Muhammad Ashfaq, President of the Huqooq Ul Ebad Development Foundation, commenced the session by discussing the organization’s performance and presenting highlights from a recent national survey on climate change effects in Pakistan. This survey was conducted across 16 districts in all four provinces, providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of climate change awareness and its impacts.
Mr. Ashfaq detailed how the survey findings were shared with the government and various departments working on climate change, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to address the issue. He underscored the urgency of implementing effective climate governance policies and the role of community engagement in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
Other speakers at the event included Ms. Fehmida Anum, Dr. Farooq, Muhammad Qasim, and Mr. Zeeshan Ahmed Bhatti. They spoke about the significance of climate change and the importance of climate governance in the country. The speakers highlighted various aspects of climate change, including its impact on agriculture, water resources, and public health, and discussed strategies for building resilience and adaptive capacity within communities.
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, where participants engaged in a lively discussion, sharing their concerns and ideas for future actions to combat climate change. The event was a significant step towards raising awareness and building capacity to tackle climate change in Pakistan.
